About Captain Christopher J. Loader and NE Sailing Services
Captain Loader has sailed for more than 30 years, starting as crew aboard Marblehead race boats. In 2000 Captain Christopher purchased his first ocean going sailboat, a C&C 38 racer/cruiser. Her successor, a Hunter 41DS, was moored in Falmouth Foreside for 10 years. Skippering these vessels in races hosted by Portland Yacht Club gave Chris the opportunity to learn the waters and currents of Casco Bay. The intricacies of sailing between the Islands of Maine are interesting and rewarding. His expertise and experience allows him to navigate these waters even in the thickest fog.
Since then he has competed in hundreds of races, including from Newport to Bermuda and Marblehead to Halifax. As crew, he has delivered yachts to ports in Gibraltar, Spain, France, Mexico, Florida, and US east coast. These experiences exposed him to a variety of weather conditions, mechanical adversity, and crew situations.
For the past five years, he has docked his vessel on the Piscataqua River. The currents are particularly challenging in this location. He is comfortable handling strong currents, heavy boat traffic, and nearly all wind conditions. In 2020 he purchased a Tayana 65 and sailed her home from Annapolis. Owning an older boat comes with all sorts of surprises! Fortunately, his background has given him the skills to identify and quickly mitigate system problems. He is experienced in all aspects of marine repair, preventative maintenance and is fully experienced with marine electronics and navigation.
If you are purchasing a new sailboat he can help with sea trials to confirm you’re choosing the right vessel. Captain Loader especially enjoys sailing with skippers that are new to a boat. He enjoys showing a novice how to work all the equipment on an unfamiliar vessel. His experience and love of sailing will ensure you will have the best experience possible.
Captain Loader’s license is rated at USCG 50 Ton Masters, License # 000660098. His sailing endorsements include near coastal, out to 100 nautical miles.
Our rates are $300/4 hours, $500/8 hours, $1000/24 hours, $4000/5 days
